Baseball was big in Old Forge (right), and by the turn to the 20th century there was an Old Forge Team or the Town Team. The Town of Webb Historical Association has photos of teams from the early 1900s onward with players identified. The Town Team from 1906 won 13 consecutive games under manager Charlie Benjamin at rear. Starting with the middle row on the left at first base was Dave Benjamin, catcher Frank Rivette, short stop Tom O’Brien, third base Walter Marks and left field, Bill Egan. Front row includes pitcher Robert Goodsell, right field Albert O’Brien, center field Matt Luke, second base Charles Rivett.

This photo (below right) of the team three years later in 1909 was taken at the diamond at the present site of the Thendara Golf Course. It was taken before a clam bake after the team had been defeated by the Beaver River Team. In the back row were team veterans James Hill and Harry Donnelly. Middle row from left, includes second baseman Ernie La Comb, third baseman Henry Black, center fielder Jack Christy, right fielder Albert O’Brien, short stop Dave Benjamin and first baseman and relief pitcher Robert Goodsell. Front row includes left fielder Bill Egan, short stop Claude Young, catcher Frank Rivette and pitcher/manager Walter Marks.
