George Villiere’s law office is being taken over by attorney Tim Schofield as of May 1. Villiere, who has been planning to retire had feelers out for someone to take the practice over for some time. One of Villiere’s colleagues mentioned the practice to Schofield who was interested.

“We talked and he’s a great guy,” said Villiere.

Villiere said that lawyers tend to hang on to their jobs until they die and he didn’t want that to be him. He wanted to retire and have a chance to do some of the things he’s always wanted to do.

“I want to travel and go visiting and take it a little easier. The pressure is off now. I plan to become a little more active in some volunteer organizations and I really enjoy sleeping in,” he laughed.

Villiere says that he will be available to Schofield to answer questions and that he still has a few things that he needs to finish up, and then he will be done with the work-a-day world. He says he’ll miss it some, that he’s met good people and had great clients. He says that he enjoyed, “at least 90 percent of it.”

Schofield, who was born and raised in Rochester, is familiar with the Town of Webb area because his family has had a camp here for over 50 years. His sister, Robin, owns Bear Up North Cottages in Inlet.

“Having a place on Seventh Lake and being a lover of the Adirondacks, I decided to look for opportunities here. It was suggested that I talk to George because he was retiring,” said Schofield.

Schofield, a father of two grown children, has been a lawyer since 1978 and is licensed in Ohio and New York. He has been affiliated with a larger firm in Rochester since 1984. He will work a few days a week in Old Forge at the beginning. He plans to close his practice in Rochester and slowly make the change to practicing full time in Old Forge over the next year.

Villiere will remain associated with the office and Kathy Riehle will be staying on as Schofield puts it “the brains of the outfit.”
