Go forth on the Fourth in the Forge

Tuesday, June 26, 2012 - Updated: 11:48 AM

The Fourth of July celebration in Old Forge and the Town of Webb has been a popular family event for generations of visitors to the Adirondack Park. Only an hour’s drive from Utica, this area is literally less than a tankful of gasoline away from all parts of New York State.

The Fourth of July celebration on Wednesday, July 4, evening includes a free concert performed by the Floyd Community Instrumental Ensemble starting at 7:30 p.m. After the Independence Day music, spectacular fireworks over the Old Forge Pond will wrap up the festivities. Note that the fireworks will go on rain or shine and will only be cancelled in the event of a severe thunderstorm.

This is the largest holiday weekend of the entire year. Families can enjoy the Enchanted Forest Water Safari, New York State’s largest water theme park, take a boat ride on the Fulton Chain of Lakes with the Old Forge Lake Cruises, board the Adirondack Scenic Railroad for a train ride into the wilderness, be dazzled by spectacular views of the surrounding mountains from the McCauley Mountain Scenic Chairlift, or relax with many other options, including View, the new arts center. All attractions and activities are open for this terrific summer season. Recreational opportunities abound, including hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, river rafting, horseback riding, seaplane rides, museums, golfing, fishing, sailing, shopping, and more.

Join Inlet to celebrate Independence Day. The day starts off at Fern Park with the annual Ping Pong Ball Drop at 1 p.m.  This event brings hundreds of children to the park who will watch as Payne’s Air Service drops ping pong balls onto the ball field from a seaplane.

Starting at 7:30 p.m. enjoy the music of Jamie Notarthomas as he kicks off Inlet’s Sunsets by the Lake Summer Concert Series on Arrowhead Lakefront. Jamie is a veteran of the independent music scene, dazzling audiences for more than a dozen years with his inspired performances and original blend of folk music with nearly any other style. He can connect to a wide variety of audiences with a warmth and intimacy that transcends generations, with his impressive repertoire of both originals and cover tunes.

At dusk, Inlet will set off a spectacular display of fireworks with the best view being from Arrowhead Lakefront.
