Sue Green to attend arts festival

Tuesday, June 26, 2012 - Updated: 12:48 PM

June 30 marks the starting day of this year’s Forge Festival of Arts and Crafts. Over 65 vendors will be participating in the event, coming from five states to share their wares. Held at the North Street Recreation Center in Old Forge, the festival will be open Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

One returning artist to look for is Sue Green of Green View Photography. Green says she really enjoyed her time last year and has decided to return based on her positive experience. Her booth includes framed photographs, notecards, matted pictures and other novelty photo items.

This year she will be featuring a new type of framed art that she calls “Windows to the Adirondacks.” These photographs are just what they sound like, Adirondack scenes in windows behind glass. Green will share the process of making the frames and selecting the scenes to fit the window.

Though it has always been an interest of hers, Green really got into photography about eight years ago. Her husband had always been the one to take the family photos so she never explored the medium until she got a new camera and things just “clicked.”  Now you can find her with a Nikon D300 and a variety of lenses.

Green View Photography features photographs of nature, specifically of the Adirondacks. Green says the area is her favorite place and she cherishes every minute she gets to spend in the park. Her family has a camp on Twitchell Lake and has been visiting for the past 25 years.

She returns to many locations within the Adirondacks, particularly Twitchell Lake, but tries to discover new places each year to capture with her photography.

When searching for the perfect composition, Green looks for a mood/feeling that embodies a pleasant experience. Bright colors, patterns and reflections also play a large role.

Come see Sue Green and other artists at the Forge Festival of Arts and Crafts. Admission is $5 to support View; children under 12 are free admission. In addition to arts and crafts booths, this year there will be face painting and tie dying pillowcases. Visit www.ViewArts.org for a coupon for $1 off admission and a list of participating vendors.
