National watercolor exhibit set to open in August

View will hold an opening celebration for the 31st annual Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors from 5 - 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10.

The event will feature live music, a cash bar, and hors d’oeuvres. The Annual Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors is View’s most anticipated and renowned exhibition.

This highly competitive exhibition features aquamedia works on paper from many of the best living painters in North America.

It has been ranked one of the ten best competitive watercolor exhibitions in the country by The Artists Magazine, and has received many endorsements and accolades.

The opening reception is free to View members.

The exhibition will be displayed Aug. 11 through Oct. 8.

On the first morning of the exhibition from 10:30 to noon on Saturday, Aug. 11, there will be a continental breakfast and gallery walkabout. M. Stephen Doherty, editor of Plein Air Magazine, will lead a group discussion, about paintings displayed in the 2012 exhibition. The discussion will cover a wide range of topics using original artworks as a specific examples. Admission to the gallery walkabout and continental breakfast is $15 for non-members and $10 for members.

On display with the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors are ceramics by Cristina Salusti. Salusti received her BFA from Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y., has been awarded a Fullbright Fellowship and has studied stone-carving in residency in Iwate-Ken, Japan. Initially a stone-sculptor, Salusti has spent over three decades exploring her craft.
