The grand old house that was owned by the Adirondack Express for many years has taken on a new incarnation as Sisters Bistro. Sisters Susan Rimato and Jeanne Selander have made the old lady over and she is shining. The interior has been remodeled and even Dr. Nelson, the original owner of the home, would be amazed at how elegant the home is now. The restaurant has been styled to suit the turn of the century building, with sparkling chandeliers, cozy rugs and deep red walls. A great deal of attention was paid to the details. The mantel around the fireplace has four handmade tiles in it depicting the four seasons, and there are new stained glass windows in the bar area. The original woodwork has been polished and the original curved staircase has been made a stand-out feature. And that’s just the inside. Outside there is seating on the gracious front porch and in the back a large deck awaits diners. Under the deck and in front of the house, landscaping has been done that gives the bistro a welcoming feel. The bistro seats around a hundred people, including the deck and the porch.

“The best part about the renovation was all the wonderful people we had the opportunity to work with. People have been incredibly supportive and each has been a master craftsperson who has excelled at their individual pieces of this puzzle. We could not have gotten open without them,” said Jeanne.

The menu has about a dozen different offerings, with specials made by Chef Adrian Diday added almost everyday.

“The idea is that by keeping the menu small we can assure that the food is fresh,” Jeanne said.

Susan said the bistro plans to put a greenhouse in the backyard so they can grow some of their own produce.

The restaurant has a full liquor license and has about 20 different wines available by the glass. The menu is set up so that diners can easily see what wines are recommended for each dish.

“We thought this type of restaurant would fill a niche here in Old Forge. We hope people will give us a try, like what they find, and frequent us often,” said Jeanne with a smile.
