Eleanor ‘Ellye’ Kozak Slusarczyk
June 15, 2011


Eleanor “Ellye” Kozak Slusarczyk died peacefully on June 15. Ellye was born on January 20, 1933 in Clinton, New York. She was the daughter of William and Stella Kozak. She was a graduate of Clinton Central School and received a B.S. in Elementary Education from Oswego State Teachers College and a Master of Arts in Social Studies from Syracuse University.  
On April 7, 1956, Ellye was joined in marriage to, and is survived by, Stanley Louis Slusarczyk of Prospect, N.Y. Ellye taught school for 33 years in Syracuse, Whitesboro and primarily Holland Patent, where she was a 6th grade English and Social Studies teacher.
Ellye founded the Prospect Free Library in 1969 and served as its first President of the Board of Trustees. Throughout her life she continued to volunteer, hold various offices and write grants for the library. She was a member of St. Ann’s parish in Hinckley, N.Y. and served as past president of the Altar Rosary Society and vice president of the Parish Council, and was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister.
Ellye was very active in the Kopernik Cultural Association in Utica and helped establish the Stanley and Eleanor Slusarczyk Library in 1996. She was dubbed the Association’s “Poet Laureate.”  Ellye loved sharing her original poetry on Polish culture and history with the public, and often recited her poems with musical accompaniment by Sharon Zakrzewski Markwardt of Utica one of her poems recently appeared in the Express.  They performed at several locations in the Mohawk Valley, including the Oneida County Historical Society, the Syracuse Polish Heritage Club, the Kopernik Cultural Association, and the Westmoreland Grange.
Ellye was a prolific writer and had columns in several newspapers, including “Poetically Speaking” in the Post Eagle (Clifton, NJ), “Polish Trivia” and “Our Heritage” in the Polish American Journal (Buffalo, NY), “I Love New York’ Trivia” and articles on Polonia in the Hometown Shopper (Fulton, NY), and “Ellye’s Trivia” in 5 Point Compass News (Rome, NY) - a trivia column about local historical events and locations.  In 2006, Ellye also published “The Crystalline Eagle,” a book of her poetry.
Ellye was the recipient throughout her life of many awards. These were bestowed by the International Society of Poets, the Kopernik Association (Distinguished Polonian Award), and the National Library of Poetry. She also received the Adirondack Women in History writing award and is listed in Who’s Who in American Polonia. Pope John Paul II provided a Papal Blessing for the Slusarczyk family as a result of a poem Ellye wrote for the Pope. In 2005, Ellye was inducted in the initial class of Clinton Central School’s Hall of Distinction. A plaque recognizing each inductees achievements is on permanent display in the high school auditorium lobby.
She was an active member of various organizations, including the National Library of Poetry, the Clinton Historical Society, and New York State United Teachers Association.
In addition to her loving husband, Ellye is survived by her sister, Irene McDougal of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and her children, Deborah Carlson and husband Paul of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Dale of Prospect N.Y.; David of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; Thomas of Trenton Falls, N.Y.; and Timothy and wife Amy of Burke, Va.; and grandchildren, Paige and Aaron of Burke, Va.
A Mass of Christian Burial was on Saturday June 18, at St. Leo’s Church, Holland Patent. Interment was in Prospect Cemetery. Dylan Martin
May 24, 2011


Services were held in Freemantle, Western Australia, for Dylan Martin, 18, who was killed in a car accident along with his step father, Perry Diver, on May 24.
Dylan had  graduated from high school in December of 2011, and was employed at Techtronics. He worked as a civilian on military vehicles in a secure environment. He had also attained the level of Eagle Scout.
Dylan is survived by his father, Matthew Martin (Barbara Green), Old Forge N.Y., and mother and sisters, Cindy and Haley Diver, Serpentine, Western Australia, and Brittney Martin, Perth, Western, Australia.
He leaves many friends and family members of the Martin and Diver families.
Dylan’s family would like to thank everyone for their kind expressions of sympathy in the form of hugs, cards, calls, food and offers of help. Your friendship and love is heartfelt.

Ruth Timm
Memorial Mass


Ruth Rita Eileen Timm, 85, of Raquette Lake and Old Forge, N.Y. and New Bern, N.C., passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at her New Bern home following a brief illness.
Ruth was an internationally known porcelain and china painting artist, lecturer, instructor and author, especially about the Adirondacks.
A memorial Mass is scheduled for Friday, July 1, at 11 a.m. at St. William’s Church in the village of Raquette Lake. Following the service, at noon, there will be a luncheon for all guests attending aboard the WW Durant in Raquette Lake. The boat will be docked at the shore.

Bryant Hall
Memorial Service


A memorial service will be held for Bryant Hall of 7th Lake who passed away on Nov. 16, 2010.
The service will begin at 11 a.m., on July 2, at Church of the Lakes, on Main Street, in Inlet.
Coffee hour and receiving will immediately follow the service.
