Memorial service

A memorial service will be held for Clayton “Bud” Gribneau at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 27 at McCauley Mountain. Bud passed away on Aug. 1. His obituary ran in last week’s Express.

Helen Cody

Helen A. Cody, 85, of State Route 28, Forestport, died Monday, Aug. 9, at the home of her companion, Dick Howard.  
Mrs. Cody was born on May 31, 1925 at Rectors Corners in the Town of Montague, a daughter of the late Daniel A. and Edith Rogers Allen. She attended country school at Rector’s Corners and graduated from Lowville Academy in 1941. On June 17, 1943, she married Joseph R. Cody in the Town of Montague. Mr. Cody died on Oct. 24, 1991.  Together, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm on Route 177. The couple purchased and operated the LeHav Motel in West Lowville, until selling the motel in 1974, at which time they moved to Lowville. In 1983, the couple moved to Otter Lake.
Mrs. Cody enjoyed attending Lowville Elks Lodge 1605 with her husband. She also taught senior citizen’s driving courses for AARP for five years. Mrs. Cody enjoyed cross stitch, word search, fishing and spending time on the party barge.
She is survived by her companion, Dick Howard; a brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and June Allen of Lowville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by three brothers, Lester, Elmer, and Byron Allen; and a sister, Shirley Seymour.
A prayer service was held on Aug. 12 in Lowville. Burial  followed in the West Lowville Rural Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Otter Lake Fire Department Ambulance Fund, 1408 State Route 28, Forestport, NY 13338.

(Maher) Moore

Frances C. (Maher) Moore, 100, of Schuyler St. in Boonville, a former Utica resident and widow of Attorney Albert V. Moore, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, Aug. 11.  
She was born in Middletown, Conn., on July 27, 1910, a daughter of James and Mary Cahalan Maher. Frances grew up in Utica where she graduated from Utica Free Academy with the Class of 1929. After that she attended the Rochester Dental Dispensary, returning to Utica, where she was employed as a dental hygienist for Utica area dentists, and in the same capacity for the Utica City School District.
On Oct. 19, 1940, Frances was united in marriage with Maurice F. Sheehan at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica. In 1955, she and Mr. Sheehan constructed and founded the “Pied Piper” ice cream and food stand on Route 28 in Old Forge. She and her family operated this business until 1958 when it was sold. The Sheehans were founding members of Upstate Cerebral Palsy Association (of Utica). Mr. Sheehan died on Oct. 5, 1958.
On April 27, 1961, Frances was united in marriage with Attorney Albert V. Moore, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. After that she moved to her present home on Schuyler St. in Boonville. Mr. Moore, a longtime Boonville area attorney, died on Sept. 4, 1987.
Mrs. Moore was a member of St. Joseph’s Church of Boonville. For many years, she and the late Mrs. Louise Hammond, were the co-chairs of the American Red Cross Blood Drive in Boonville. For many years, she served on the Board of Directors of Upstate Cerebral Palsy.
She is survived by one son, John M. Sheehan, and his wife Anchalee, Port Townsend, Wash., two daughters; Anne S. Garbarino, and her husband Louis, Old Forge, Karin Moore Beckert, Boonville, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Maurice F. Sheehan, Jr., on April 5, 1955. The last of her family, she was also predeceased by two sisters: Anne Hameline, Eleanor Maher, and by one brother, J. Sexton Maher.
Her funeral was held on Monday at St. Joseph’s Church in Boonville, where the Rev. Sean Patrick O’Brien, Pastor, celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Visitation hours were Sunday at the Trainor Funeral Home in Boonville.

Memorial service

A memorial service will be held for Audrey Mae Crafts at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18 at Niccolls Church in Old Forge. The service will be a celebration of her life. Audrey passed away on Sunday, Aug. 15. Her full obituary will run in an upcoming issue.
