Arthur F. Germer

Arthur F. Germer, 66, of Old Forge, and formerly of Hicksville, N.Y. died on Dec. 27, 2011, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of Herman and Mildred Germer. He served in the Navy and Naval Reserves. He was married to Virginia in 1969 in Brooklyn.  

Art worked on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) as a broker. He retired from the NYSE in 1987, moving from Hicksville to Old Forge and built a new home, a “Work of Art”, on Fourth Lake for he and his family. Their new home was located at Holiday Shores Estates, formerly known as Becker’s Resort, where Art’s parents took Art as a child on their vacations from Brooklyn. Art became manager of Holiday Shores where he fully enjoyed his day to day tasks, whose benefits included making many, many life long friends with the homeowners and renters. Art could be seen drinking a Coke while riding his “John Deere” around the property every day. Art retired from this position in July of 2011.

Art is survived by four children, Scott Germer, Rex Germer, Danielle Carro, and Sven Germer, his (ex)wife of many years, Virginia Germer and his companion Susan Fisher. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Tyler Germer, Mia Carro, Genevieve Carro, and MJ Carro. His niece, Marrett, and nephew, Eric and their families still reside on Long Island.  Art was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Mildred, and two infant children, Samantha and Roy.

Calling hours were held Friday, Dec. 30, at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home. His funeral was held on Saturday, Dec. 31, at Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church. Marcia C. Dunn

Marcia C. Dunn of Sarasota Fla., and Huntington, N.Y., passed away on Dec. 19, 2011.

She had a camp on First Lake on Hollywood Road for over 50 years.

She was the beloved mother of Mike, Terry (Nancy), Judd (Carol), Bill (Anita), Carol Fahy (Bob), and Larry (Lisa).

She was the grandmother of Brooke, Devon, Meghan, Kelly, Bill, Korinne, Katelyn, Patrick,  J.P., Kassidy, and Aidan.

She is survived by her brother Bill Coughlin (Peggy), many nieces and nephews, and lifelong best friend Joan Grace.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband F.A. (Judd), and brother Terry Coughlin.

Mary W. Greene

Mary Weaver Greene, 84, of Old Forge passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 with her loving family at her side. Mary was the daughter of William and Clara Helton Weaver, born April 23, 1927 in Utica, N.Y.

Mary married Albert C. Greene on April 20, 1952, and together they had five children. Making their home in the Adirondacks, they ran the Pied Piper Drive-In for over thirty years. Mary was an active member of her community and a well-respected business woman.

Mary is survived by four of her children: Albert C. Greene, Jr. and Cynthia of Latham, N.Y., Michael and Kelly Greene, Jeffery and Phoebe Greene and Lorraine and Todd Brosemer all of Old Forge, twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She spent many hours watching and cheering them all on in their chosen endeavors. Whether it was a concert, ball game, or art project, she was their greatest fan. Mary was predeceased by her husband Albert Greene, Sr. and her daughter Christine G. Doggett.

Calling hours were held Tuesday, Dec. 27 at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 28, at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church..
