Board of Education recap

The Town of Webb UFSD Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, June 5, 2012.

The following capsule does not represent approved minutes.

The Board of Education took the following action:

Approved the Minutes of May 16 regular meeting and May 29 special meeting.

Approved the warrants and claims.

Approved the 2012-2013 Board  of Education meeting schedule

Approved the Committee on Special Education recommendations

Approved the amended 403(b) Retirement Plan document

Approved appointment of David Leach as the Athletic Director for the 2012-2013 school-year.

Approved the agreement between Town of Webb Union Free School District and Catholic Charities of Herkimer County to provide substance abuse prevention counseling and services at the school for 2012-2013 with the cost remaining at $12,000.

Approved the participation in the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES Cooperative Purchasing Programs in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the “Cooperative Purchasing Agreement” for the 2012/2013 school year.

Approved the request from Camp Gorham for the use of two buses and drivers to transport campers from Camp Gorham to the Town of Inlet for the 4th of July fireworks at 9 p.m., with Camp Gorham bearing all related costs and upon provision of a certificate of insurance naming the school district as an additional insured and pending driver availability.

Approved the creation of a 1. Full Time Equivalent (FTE) educational technology specialist position effective September 1, 2012.

Approved the resolution to abolish a teaching position for reasons of curricular restructuring, a 7179 FTE position in the 7-12 Business Teacher area is abolished effective June 30, 2012 and that the person in this .7179 FTE 7-12 Business Teacher position is Christine LaPlante.

Approved the a resolution to abolish a teaching position for reasons of curricular restructuring a .5 FTE position in the Technology Integration Specialist area is abolished effective June 30, 2012 and that the person in this .5 FTE position in the Technology Integration Specialist position is Thomas Finnerty.

Tabled approval of Board Policy 151.3 ñ Dignity for All Students ñ Student Harassment and Bullying until the next meeting.

Approved the return of Karen Mitchell as a K-6 teacher to fill a vacancy due to the retirement of a teacher.

Approved the creation of a .55 FTE AIS and .45FTE RTI/Data position effective July 1, 2012.

Appointed Madeline Fenton to the .55 FTE AIS and .45 FTE RTI/Data position effective July 1, 2012.

Approved the request from Sam Phaneuf and Patrick Venetz for the use of two buses and drivers to transport volunteers and participants from Thendara to the Town of Inlet for the Freedom March of the Adirondacks on Sunday, June 24, 2012, with Covey Pashley Post #893 bearing all related costs and upon provision of a certificate of insurance naming the school district as an additional insured and pending driver availability.

Rejected a notice of claim served upon the board of Education by former Superintendent Donald Gooley on May 18. The Board of Education of the Town of Webb Union Free School District was recently presented with a Notice of Claim from the District’s former Superintendent, Donald Gooley. Mr. Gooley is demanding payment of money he claims is due to him under an Agreement with the School District that established the terms of his retirement, which became effective as of Jan. 31, 2012.  The Board has reviewed Gooley’s claim and voted at its meeting on June 5, to reject his demand for payment due to its belief that Gooley breached his retirement agreement by removing and destroying several cabinets of files from school district offices prior to leaving employment with the district.  

Mr. Gooley served as Superintendent for the district from 2005 until his recent retirement.

Principal’s report included the topics: Will be attending BOCES awards day ceremony at South Lewis Central School on June 7; gave an update on senior progress; reviewed the Key Club Report for volunteer hours accumulated; Relay for Life participants; read the prom report submitted by Parker Clemans; 4 and 8 science tests have been given;  grade 6 physicals this week; reviewed the regents and finals schedule; an assembly for grade k-5 on June 15; reviewed the various field trips; June 21 is the last day of school and graduation on June 22.

Superintendent’s report included the topics:

Candidates for the science position will be interviewed on June 13, 2012.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 19, 6:30 p.m. in the Library.
