Hot Screamers slam Black Mountain

Inlet’s softball team, the Hot Screamers, got off to a fast start at North Creek last week and won for the third straight time to improve their record to 3-0.

In the top of the first inning, Kyle Hauser and Heather Levi both walked, then scored on a home run by Karen Hoskins, to give the team an early lead.

Jen Hitchcock opened the second inning with the first of her four hits of the game. She was followed by back to back singles by Hauser and Levi.

After an out, Hoskins smashed another over the fence for a grand slam and an early lead of 8-0.

Black Mountain scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning to close the gap.

In the third inning, with bases loaded, Black Mountain tried to pitch around Hoskins, who grounded into a forced play at third.

Next up to bat was Misty McGough, who smacked a three-run homer to top off a five-run inning.

The Screamers scored three more in the fourth to increase their lead to 16-4, with key hits by Sam Luce, Gordi Christodaro, Crystal LaPorte, Karen Hoskins and Misty McGough.

Black Mountain scored six runs over the final two innings and the Screamers tacked on three more in the seventh for a final score of 19-10.

Leading the team with a solid pitching performance, strong fielding and four hits was Misty McGough.

Karen Hoskins led the team with eight runs batted in on her three hits.

Kyle Hauser and Katlyn Payne also had three hits apiece.

The team will face a Speculator squad at 6:30 p.m. on July 3, at Arrowhead Park in Inlet.
