Looking for History in the Town of Martinsburg

Thursday, May 31, 2012 - Updated: 12:56 PM

This June & July my gang Karen, Brandie and I will be going to cemeteries photographing stones, you are welcome to join us.

All tours will start at 9am at the Martinsburg Historic Town Hall.  These are self drive tours, we are just guiding you to the sites.  You will need walking shoes and water.

June 14, we will be doing PANSEY HILL (also known as Staring Cemetery) and MAPLE RIDGE.  Pansey Hill is on an abandoned road and we will have to walk in about 1/4 mile, this cemetery is not maintained.  Maple Ridge is very close to the road and is maintained.

June 28, we will do Hogsback, Pitchers, and Martinsburg.  Hogsback is being worked on by the Martinsburg Historical Society and the Town of Martinsburg Maintenance crew.  This cemetery you walk in or if you dare drive in.  Pitchers is on Lee road very close to the road.  Martinsburg Cemetery we will be concentrating on the oldest part on the east end.

July 12, we will do East Martinsburg , Louck (Bates,Tiffany) and Glendale.  These Three are all easy access.

July 26, we will do West Martinsburg, Chapel Hill, Ashback (RectorRd), and Straders.  The first three easy access and Straders is a long walk thru brush and tall weeds.
