The day after Election Day, Judge Charles Merrell, the winner of one of the four Supreme Court seats in the 5th Judicial District that were up for grabs this year, is spending his morning collecting campaign signs. “The signs have served their purpose, now it’s time to start picking them up throughout the district,” said Judge Merrell. The district includes the six counties of Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego.

In January of next year, Judge Merrell will start serving the fourteen year term he just won on the NYS Supreme Court. “I want to thank all the voters for their support, my campaign committee for their hard work and dedication over the last few months, and my family for their patience while I spent so much time on the road campaigning,“ Judge Merrell said. “Besides the outcome, the best part of the campaign was all the great people I got to meet along the way.”

Campaign Chairman Kris Marsala, speaking on behalf of the Friends of Judge Merrell for Supreme Court, praised Judge Merrell’s positive attitude and energy throughout the campaign, “Judge Merrell was a pleasure to work with, he kept the campaign fun,” said Marsala. “The fact that our candidate was from the smallest county in the district, and we spent the least amount of money on the campaign compared to the other candidates, makes Judge Merrell’s victory all that more satisfying.”

Until the end of the year, Judge Merrell will continue to be a multi-bench judge in Lewis County, presiding over County, Surrogate’s, Family and Drug court, as well as Acting Supreme Court Justice.
