Holiday ball a success

The 2011 Holiday Ball was set in a tropical jungle. We had a massive vine covered tree, an erupting volcano, many wild animals and the ruins of a Mayan temple.

The freshmen Hunter and Huntress were Allyson Brosemer and Tyler McGough. The sophomore Warrior and Warrioress were Camry Liddle and Corey Down. The junior Shaman and Shamanette were Katie Connell and Ethan Kress. The senior Chief and Chieftess were Andrea Frey and Parker Clemans.

We would like to thank the following for their generous contributions and help: Mr. Huntress’ Pre Calculus and Calculus classes, DiOrio’s Grocery Store, our DJ Mr. Mitch Maryhugh, Brooker’s True Value Hardware, the Heroux family, C & R Hardware, the TOWS custodial staff, Mrs. Diane Amos, and all the parents and teachers who helped with chaperoning and refreshments. We would also like to thank Travis Kiefer for his photography. Photos from the Holiday Ball can be ordered online at www.oldforgeholidayball.com.

Student thankful for scholarship

I would like to thank the Decker family for their decision to award me with the Mathew Decker Memorial Fund scholarship. The funds from this scholarship couldn’t have come at a better time, as I will surely use it while I am studying abroad in Denmark this spring.

Thank you, Leif Frymire

Library among benefactors

The Old Forge Library has received a $1,000 donation from the Matthew Decker Memorial Fund. This year the Fund, which is perpetuated with money from an annual benefit and Matthew’s Parents, Bob and Dalejean Decker, also made donations to KYAC of Old Forge, the American Heart Association, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and the Mayo Clinic for Cancer and Heart Research. In addition, two local students received $1,000 scholarships. The Library has earmarked this donation for the purchase of books for their young adult collection, and towards the 2012 World Book Encyclopedia. Matthew, who passed away six years ago, was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading to children.
