Finding bigfoot in the Adirondacks

To the editor:

As of today, we have been  notified by the producers of the television series: “Finding Bigfoot,” that Matt Moneymaker and his team of researchers from the “Bigfoot Research Organization” will be making a trip from California to film here in the Adirondacks (North Lake area, Town of Ohio), with fisherman and bigfoot researcher “Adirondack Jack” Leach from Utica.

They will also be filming in the Vermont with longtime bigot researcher, Frank Siecienski in early summer.

Legislature should re-think jail

To the editor:

The Herkimer Village Board unanimously reaffirmed their previous decision to amend local zoning laws designed to block the construction of any and all correctional facilities within the village limits, including the controversial P&C site. What this means is the County, without costly litigation, cannot further pursue this site for construction of a proposed $35 million dollar facility.

Resolutions have already been passed by the Legislature weeks prior to this decision, for the purpose of seeking legal recourse against the Village for this and other site related issues. With the current vote, circumstances, and legal obstacles that are currently in place, the Legislature should seriously consider and rethink its policies regarding county inmates.

Further failures to do so will result in additional losses of millions in revenue.

In moving forward the County would serve its constituents well by realizing that issues of such financial and social magnitude require diligence, communication, respect, and cooperation with other governmental agencies and minority views. For a Legislature that has many incumbents with 10, 20 or even 30 years or more experience and service, learning on the job does not seem to be a logic explanation for their conduct and failures.

An admirer of Lincoln

To the editor:

Abraham Lincoln was not just a past American president who we remember each year on President’s Day. He was not just the president who saved the Union and ended slavery. He was a self-educated, highly motivated man of the people known for his integrity and good character whose words and writings inspired and continue to inspire Americans and other people around the world.

Mr. Lincoln spoke about many issues that are relevant even today. About freedom, he said, “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and loose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”

About liberties he wrote, “Don’t interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties.” And about God, he said, “Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.”

Americans would do well to continue to study and reflect upon Lincoln’s words and wisdom.
