Cards of Thanks - 08/31/2010

My cup runneth over with happiness

My cup runneth over with happiness as our Adirondack friends, family, and neighbors joined us in this paddle to celebrate my 80th birthday. We would like to share this picture with your readers to show that the beautiful Adirondacks encourages “a strong mind in a strong body, even at 80.” The Ritter’s hosted a cookout for all to enjoy. On Sunday, the Black’s returned the favor by hosting a brunch for all at the Buffalo Head Restaurant.

In the love of the mountains, forests, and lakes of the Adirondacks,

Lory Black

Kelly boy thanks the Kiwanis

Dear Members of Kiwanis,

Thank you for funding me to go to Camp Kiwanis. I had a great time.  It was my first chance to go to camp.  My parents are grateful too. They said it was the quietest week they had in a long time. I enjoyed the sports and did a few things I haven’t ever done before. In short, I had an awesome time at camp.

Thank you, Brendan

Ladies’ leagues thank golfers

On Tuesday, July 13, 37 women from the 9- and 18- hole golf leagues at the Thendara Golf Course, along with several guests played golf to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research, and for the local non-profit organization, Community Transportation Services (CTS). Rally For the Cure, the local affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation and CTS shared over $1800. This total included personal donations, proceeds from the sale of “pink” flags and cancer awareness bracelets, a silent auction, raffles, and a putting contest.

The committee would like to thank all the golfers and non-golfers, and several businesses for their generous support. Thanks also to Rich Chapman and his energetic pro shop employees, Ted Russell and his talented grounds crew, and Jim Holt and his efficient wait staff. All of these individuals worked toward making this annual event even more special. Thank you for “rallying around” and being an advocate of these worthwhile charities.

Sincerely,

Thendara Golf Course Ladies’ Leagues

Old Forge soccer camp a success

I would like to take the time to thank everyone involved with the Old Forge soccer camp, held Aug. 16 through 20.  When I first decided to do this camp, it was for the sole purpose of getting kids out to play soccer. When I presented my idea to councilman Mike Ross and recreation director Holly Armendola, they welcomed it with open arms.

It seemed that in no time the word spread and many people volunteered their time and brought in donations. With the donations, we were able to purchase a water bottle and soccer ball for each participant. We also had a really nice barbecue at the end of the week for all the participants and their families that was put together by Mike and Andrea Ross.

I would like to thank the following people for a very successful week of soccer: Larry and Bonnie from The Tavern, Jim and Diane Connerty from North Woods Inn, Pat and Dave from the Doughnut Shop, Holly Armendola, Bob Card and Helen Zyma from The Strand Theater, Bob Desnoyer from The Old Mill Restaurant, Nick Bankert and Felicity Davey from the Adirondack Cafe, Chip Kiefer from Souvenir Village, Dale and Sandy Roberts, and Vinnie Dolan and The American Legion for all of their monetary donations; I would like to thank everyone who helped with the picnic, Mike and Andrea Ross who took charge of the whole thing, Justin Ross who helped set-up, cooked all the food, and cleaned up, Dave Fishman for providing the hot dogs and hamburgers, Dan’s Super Duper for the baked beans and condiments, all the parents who brought juice and desserts, and lastly a special thanks to Dale and Sandy Roberts and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department for donating all of the snacks and drinks for the entire week.

I would like to thank Steve Uzdavinis for lending soccer balls, cones, and a first aid kit, Barb Uzdavinis for helping all week whenever needed, the Town crew for preparing the field and moving the goals into place, Town Supervisor Robert Moore, and every one on the town council. Thanks to JoAnne Kelly, Windy Kelly, and Jill Kane for helping to keep things organized during the day. I would like to thank Holly Armendola not only for her work as Town of Webb Parks and Recreation director, but for all her help getting the soccer balls and water bottles, and doing lots of paperwork.

Lastly, I would like to extend a special thanks to Travis Kiefer. When I started this, I had no idea I would have 50 kids each day. I called Travis last minute after hearing he might be able to help during the week. Monday morning came and I wasn’t sure if I would see him and the kids were pilling up. Travis showed up and I was glad to see him. We split the kids into 2 groups, ages 5-10 and 11-15, with Travis taking the older group. Travis’ knowledge of soccer was clear right from the start, and with that his group was attentive and willing. Travis was there every day with a smile on and ready to play. Travis, thank you for your time, efforts and knowledge.

Once again I would like to thank everyone involved and I hope I didn’t forget anyone.

The Central Adirondack Association held a cruise on Aug. 25 to thank the many volunteers who help out with CAA events throughout the year.

We couldn’t do what we do without them. Thank you.

Thank you from the CAA Board of Directors.
