Cards of thanks

Tuesday, September 25, 2012 - Updated: 11:48 AM

Briant thanks those who contributed

I would like to say, “Thank you,” to all of the people who donated to the Old Forge Library in memory of my late wife, Marge Briant.

This tribute would have meant a lot to Margie.

Drama department thanks community

The Drama Department of the Town of Webb School would like to thank all of the area businesses that helped make their chicken barbecue a success. A huge thank you goes out to Kevin and Joanne of Bienkowski’s BBQ of Newport. Their chicken was over-the-top delicious, and they generously donated their profit back to the kids. Thanks to Tina Bradt for purchasing the chicken, Don and Marie DiOrio for their donation of salt potatoes and bags, Dave Aliasso of Walt’s Diner for his delicious homemade coleslaw, Alan Nathan of Nathan’s Bakery for his famous homemade rolls, Tal Daiker of Daiker’s Inn for the to-go containers, ACE Hardware for the charcoal, and WalMart for the baked beans.

Most importantly, thank you to all of our friends and neighbors who braved the rain to come out and support our efforts. We sincerely appreciate your continued support and look forward to seeing you at our production of “Bye Bye Birdie” next March.

Our next fundraiser will be a bake sale at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in the school lobby.

Thanks for help during canoe ride

A big thank you to the wonderful people at Raquette Lake for their help on the weekend of Sept. 8. My partner and I were caught in the storm on that Saturday and ultimately our canoe capsized. Because of the wind and rough water, we ended up abandoning the canoe for our own safety. The shore of the nearest island did not seem too far away.

My partner was successful in swimming to shore but I was not as fortunate. After struggling for about an hour, a pontoon boat and my partner in another boat came to my rescue. I did have my personal flotation device on and that saved me from going under. I don’t remember all the names, but some of them were Dave, Alicia the nurse, Kyle, Corky, Don and Jim. All were very gracious in their actions in caring for this 71 year old man and his young canoe partner.
