Annual Paddle for the Cure takes place Saturday
The leisurely paddle on the Moose River will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, at Mountainman Outdoor Supply Company, on Route 28 in Old Forge. The event will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday morning and also includes live music and a cookout.
This will be the tenth year in a row that Mountainman has sponsored Paddle for the Cure. Last year over 200 paddlers visited Old Forge and raised approximately $20,000 – $30,000 for breast cancer research. John Nemjo, president of Mountainman, said, “One of the reasons we have supported this event is that the research it supports takes place here in upstate New York, at the Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse. It has now risen close to $200,000 for breast cancer research. Mountainman is very proud that we can help Janice and her team of volunteers make all this happen every year.”
Janice Todeschini of the Upstate Medical University Hospital, event organizer, noted, “Paddle for the Cure gets bigger and better each year. Breast cancer touches almost everyone and every family in some way, and research is the only way we can cure it.” Mike Schoen, Mountainman manager added, “The Mountainman team really looks forward to this event. It’s just one of the ways we can give back to the community. It’s really the team effort between our employees and the Paddle for the Cure volunteers, that makes this such a success and so much fun.”
