Barbara Kellogg: Gestures
June 25 - July 22
View, a multimedia arts center located in Old Forge, NY, is pleased to announce the solo exhibitions of Martha Deming of Remsen, NY and Barbara Kellogg of Fayetteville, NY. Both exhibitions invoke semi-abstract and abstract forms of nature. These shows will be open for viewing from June 17 through July 23, 2017.
Kellogg graduated with a BFA from Syracuse University in 1963. Since then, she has taught classes in her studio, as well as many workshops in New York State, Maine, Georgia, and Puerto Rico. She has exhibited locally and nationally, including exhibitions with The National Watercolor Society, The American Watercolor Society, Stone Quarry Hill Art Park, Joseph Scala Gallery, Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors, and most recently, The Rocky Mountain Watermedia Exhibition, amongst others.
Gestures in nature and calligraphy are the primary inspirations for Barbara Kellogg’s work. Using acrylic paints, inks, and collage on either paper or canvas, Kellogg especially enjoys working in a variety of watermedia, due to the oftentimes unintended surprises and marks that occur. Along with whimsical playfulness, good composition, interesting color, contrast, and texture are her visual goals. Each painting becomes an adventure and challenge, and decisions are continually made as the piece develops. She is sure that the pleasure she derives will be communicated to those who view this exhibition.
The solo exhibitions of Martha Deming and Barbara Kellogg will coincide, and thematically play off the upcoming Various Flora & Fauna Exhibition, a multimedia show that explores the different facets of nature. The opening reception for both shows will be June 23, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The reception will feature hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, and the opportunity to meet with several of the exhibiting artists. The reception is free and open to the public.
