The Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks has rejuvenated an old Central Adirondack tradition by sponsoring the Second Annual Kiwanis Paddle Classic. For many years, the Central Adirondack Association and the Town of Webb sponsored this unique spring event.
There will be awards for various categories of canoes, kayaks and guideboats.
There are two races which will depart from the Town of Webb Navigation Dock in Old Forge Pond. A six mile race from the Old Forge Lakefront to Treasure Island, on First Lake, and back, and a 12 mile race from Old Forge Lakefront to Alger Island, on Fourth Lake, and back.
Registration is 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. will take place at the Hemmer Cottage on South Shore Road and the boats will be launched at the Town of Webb navigation dock.
Registration fee is $25 per adult racer.
The race will be followed by an awards ceremony and barbecue on the lawn at Hemmer Cottage.
Central Adirondack Search and Rescue Team (CASART) will provide a Command Post and assist with communications.
