The sixth annual Zippy’s Crusade for Kids Charity Snowmobile Ride took place Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Ole Barn in Inlet.
Greg Zipadelli, competition director for Stewart-Haas Racing founded the event with his wife, Nan, as a way to raise funds for children’s charities. The star-studded event was packed with celebrities including Tony Stewart, 2011 NASCAR champion.
The event gathers funds through silent and live auctions, raffles, and ride tickets.

Dave and Debbie Langworthy of Thendara have been chosen as the King and Queen to reign over the Old Forge Winter Carnival this year. The carnival is scheduled to take place Friday, Feb. 3, through Sunday, Feb. 5.

The New York State Snowmobile Association (NYSSA) has just completed an economic impact survey. Previously completed in 1998 and updated in 2003, NYSSA invests in the survey to undertake an economic assessment of the contribution of snowmobiling to the New York State economy. The SUNY Potsdam Institute of Applied Research is now analyzing the data of the survey, which was distributed to all snowmobilers who registered a sled in New York State last year.

School names interim principal
The Town of Webb Union Free School District has named Carl Klossner as the school’s interim principal effective Jan. 26, 2012.
Klossner was the principal at the TOW UFSD from 1992 to 1996 and he began his teaching career at the Town of Webb in 1973, teaching math.
He retired as a school superintendent in another district.

RPM Snowmobile Rentals, located at 2508 State Route 28 in Thendara, burned down in a fire early Saturday, Jan. 28.
Old Forge Fire Chief Charlie Bogardus said that the fire began around 8 a.m. in the garage of the structure.
Mike and Windy Kelly, owners of the business, were inside the building when the fire broke out. They called 911.

The Webb and Adiron-dack communities Health Care Research Committee has sent out a survey to taxpayers of the towns of Webb, Inlet, Long Lake (Raquette Lake), Forestport (Woodgate, White Lake and Otter Lake).

The Central Adirondack Association will hold Old Forge’s 2012 Winter Carnival celebration Feb. 3, 4 and 5.
Winter carnival weekend in Old Forge originated in 1930 and has been highlighting the area’s variety of outdoor winter sports since.

The DEC has initiated enforcement action against Scott Thompson of Beaver River for violations of the temporary revocable permit (TRP) that allows him to use portions of the DEC’s boat launch site in Stillwater. A Lowville man has been charged with assaulting a woman in his cabin near Beaver River in the Town of Webb.
Jeffrey Jordan, 41, of 109 George Road in Lowville was arrested Saturday night, Jan. 13, after the female victim of the alleged assault called 911. Forest Rangers and Town of Webb Police arrived at the cabin by snowmobile and found a 42-year-old female who had apparently been beaten.

Inlet will soon be the host of the Fourth Annual Adirondack Ice Bowl. The pond hockey tournament will take place Friday, Jan. 27 through Sunday, Jan. 29, on Fourth Lake in front of The Woods Inn.
