Chalk up another win for the working geothermal home heating system model built by the Town of Webb Science Club under the guidance of science teacher Pat Ferrick. The club has taken their project on the road and has won two competitions. On April 25, the club won first prize in the seventh to ninth grade engineering category at the Energy Science Fair, which was part of the North Country Sustainable Energy Fair held at the SUNY Canton Campus Center. The club had previously won first place at the WPBS Energy Smart Expo in Watertown on March 29. The geo-thermal heating model simulates a system that pumps earth-warmed water into a heat-exchange system, which extracts the heat from the water so it can be used to heat a home. Members of the Science Club are Jared Rogers, Burt Yuhasz, Ben Field, Justin Burr, Allie McCumber, Molly Rodriguez, Brandon Olney, P.J. Perkins, Troy Walley, Charlie Morgan, Jason Landl, Hanson Schmid, Lance Frymire, and Jake Mitchell. ABOVE: Charlie Morgan at the Energy Science Fair in April.
