Mabel McGuirk
A memorial service will be held for Mabel L. McGuirk at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May, 10 at St. Anthony’s Church in Inlet. The Reverend Joseph Giroux will officiate. She passed away on March 13, and her obituary ran in the March 18 edition of the Express.
Graveside service
William E. Murdock
A graveside service has been scheduled for William E. Murdock at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 at the Riverview Cemetery in Old Forge. He passed away on April 4, and his obituary ran in the April 8 edition of the Express.
Michael F. Casey

Michael F. Casey, 64, of Round Lake Road, husband of Sue, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 2, at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, S.C. At the time, he and his family were enjoying a family reunion at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
A native of Brooklyn, he was born on Sept. 20, 1943, a son of William Joseph and Catherine Campbell Casey. His early childhood was in Brooklyn, moving to Whitesboro with his family, where he attended high school. After his schooling, he was employed at Whitesboro area paving companies, and as a truck driver at Burrows Trucking Co., and for the Town of Whitestown Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator. A marriage to Janice Ramsey ended in divorce.
In 1977, he and Sue H. Donovan purchased the Chute Inn, in Otter Lake, where they were married on Feb. 19, 1979. After that, the couple operated and lived at the Inn, moving to their present home in 1997. After moving to Otter Lake, Mr. Casey was employed for the Town of Webb in the Sanitation Dept., and on the Town Snowmobile Trails. For five years, he was employed as a property caretaker for the late Richard Cohen of Old Forge. He retired in 2005 from the Town of Forestport Highway Dept., where he was employed as a heavy equipment operator.
Mr. Casey attended St. Mary of the Snows Church, Otter Lake, and for over twenty five years he was an active member of the Otter Lake Fire Company, still taking an active part in the department’s annual “Steak Bake.” He was an avid hunter. For the past winter he and Sue resided in Brooksville, Fla.
In addition to his wife, Sue, he is survived by four daughters: Kathleen Parent and husband, James, Denver, Colo., Brandie Comrie and husband, John, Kirkville, Windy Kelley and husband, Mike, Old Forge, Marinda Earl and husband, John, Waynesville, Mo., four sons; Steven W. Casey, Palm Beach, Fla., Bruce M. Casey, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Duke Earl and wife, Chris, Inlet, Shane Earl and wife, Cathy, Willow Springs, N.C. He was predeceased by a son, Chad M. Casey, on Oct. 23, 1998. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, and one sister; Eileen Cieri and husband, Louie, Kirkland. He was predeceased by his mother, Catherine, in 1981.
His funeral will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Snows Church, Otter Lake, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Donald H. Karlen. Interment will be in Hayes Cemetery, Boonville. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.

Martha N. Steele

Martha N. (Nicky) Steele, 89, died at home on May 3, surrounded by the love and support of her family.
She was born in Springfield, Mass., daughter of the late Elmer and Freda Nickerson. A graduate of Colby-Sawyer College, she was married to Dr. Kenneth C. Steele, her “one and only,” on Sept. 6, 1941, a union of 57 years, ended by his death in 1998. A loving mother, grandmother and true friend, she was devoted to her family and greatly loved planning family events and holidays at their home and their camp on Fourth Lake.
Nicky was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Utica for over fifty years and was an active member of the Sherman Circle. Her community involvement included being a member of the boards of the YWCA, Camp Als-Ikh-Kan, and the Faxton Street Home for Women, and past president of the St. Luke’s Memorial Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Embroiderer’s Guild of America, Seed and Weed Garden Club, The Ladies Book Club of Utica, Garden Path, Amateur Antiquers and the Fort Schuyler Club.
She is survived by children Kenneth, Jr (Maureen) of Rochester, Peter of Eagle Bay, Carol of New Hartford, Joanne (Tom) of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Robert (Irene) of Pittsford. She also leaves grandchildren Tom Welsh III and Catherine E.N. Steele, and several nieces and nephews, especially Nancy Tehan and John Tehan. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and John Tehan.
She was fortunate to have her daughter Carol’s unselfish, loving care for so many years. Special thanks also go to Tonay, Shirley H., Barb, and most especially to Shirley Rodriguez for her steadfast care. The family is also very grateful for the wonderful and needed comfort and support provided by the Visiting Nurse Association and by Hospice and Palliative Care.
Calling hours are Friday, May 9 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams, and Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Road in New Hartford. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10 at The First Presbyterian Church, 1605 Genesee St., Utica, N.Y. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
