The Great American Bake
Sale needs your help
Thendara residents Abbie and Leslie Willard are organizing The Great American Bake Sale, an event co-sponsored by the Food Network and C & H Sugar, to be held during Paddlefest, on May 17 and 18.
Proceeds from the bake sale will go to organizations in communities across America to help provide at-risk children with nutritious meals when they are needed the most—during the summer and after school.
The Willards are looking for volunteers to bake cookies, candies, cakes, pies, or muffins for this event.
If you can help, call them at (315) 369-2885 or e-mail them at lnwillard@hotmail.com, and they will give you drop off and packaging details.
Their goal is to raise $1,000 to help prevent childhood hunger.
Garage sale map will guide shoppers on holiday weekend
Once again the Towns of Webb and Inlet are encouraging local homeowners and businesses to hold their garage sales on Memorial Day weekend: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 23 to 25.
“Community garage sales have developed into ‘event’ status in many areas of the country,” said Bruce Condie, Town of Webb Publicity Director. “It’s a great opportunity to turn your trash into cash. People will travel long distances to take advantage of the many treasures to be found,” he said.
Contact the Town of Webb Visitor Information Center at (315) 369-6983 or the Inlet Information office at (315) 357-5501 and give them your garage sale location, so it can be added to area maps to be distributed through both offices.
The deadline for submitting your garage sale information to either of the Visitor Information Centers is noon on Wednesday, May 14.
Reverse mortgage meeting set
There will be an informational meeting to learn about reverse mortgages at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 12 in the Fellowship Hall of Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church in Old Forge.
Five speakers will explain all aspects of a reverse mortgage and will answer questions: Attorney Tim Foley; Lynn Connors, a reverse mortgage consultant; Pat Manley with the Consumer Credit Counseling Bureau; Patrick McKenney with Beacon Federal; and Quinton Babcock, a grant writer who will discuss programs available to seniors in need of home improvements.
For more information, call (315) 797-4642. The church is handicapped accessible.
Water sample pick-up
schedule to start
The summer pick-up schedule for businesses who must submit drinking water samples to the Health Department will begin on Tuesday, May 13.

Samples can be dropped off on Tuesday, May 13 by 10 a.m. at the Forestport Town Hall, or by noon at The Tavern in Eagle Bay or Rocky Point Properties in Inlet.
The cost for one sample is $30, which includes testing and pickup. Additional samples, including nitrate tests for businesses, are $25 each.
Samples must be drawn from your faucet into sterile bottles furnished by the lab.
